We accomplish this mission through a number of strategies, including whole school design and transformation work, regionally-focused collaboratives, and initiatives that go deep on one or more of the 10 Distinguishers, such as Learning Through Interests & Internships. 


BPL is a founding partner of HERE to HERE (H2H), a Bronx-based organization which supports equitable pathways to lifelong career success for young people in the Bronx and New York City. Recently, HERE to HERE’s Board made the decision that the best way to achieve its mission would be to do so through its partners. As such, BPL is excited to take over management and further develop HERE to HERE’s work with high schools as well as assume its physical headquarters in the South Bronx, “The Hub”. 


About the Role

The Operations Manager’s primary responsibility will be managing the HERE to HERE Hub in the South Bronx. The Hub will be available for BPL/HERE to HERE staff living in and around the Bronx, who are currently working a hybrid schedule. Additionally, the Hub will be a community-focused venue where BPL’s schools and partners– in the Bronx and beyond– can come together for collaboration and programming. 


In addition to taking on primary management and administration responsibilities for the Hub, the Operations Manager will support BPL with other key operational responsibilities to support our relationships with schools and districts, particularly in NYC. 



Primary responsibilities include:


Office Management (70%)

  • In partnership with BPL staff and key stakeholders, including students and schools, design a vision for the HERE to HERE Hub that is community-centered and which supports interest exploration and student agency.

  • Establish a warm, welcoming environment for guests and youth coming to the space, including serving as a “first face”, greeting and welcoming visitors to the space, answering general questions, and routing inquiries to appropriate staff. 

  • Review, analyze, design and implement office systems and policies to improve office operations.

  • Maintain office supplies and equipment to support staff activities and program operations.

  • Maintain relationships with building service vendors including trash collection, cleaning service, exterminator, phone service, mail and package service, internet service, HVAC vendor and building management. Proactively identify needs and research/identify new vendors as needed.

  • Oversee and organize facility to maintain a healthy working environment for all, including coordinating emergency response plans. Collaborate with BPL’s leadership to monitor the evolving situation with COVID in order to ensure that the office has up-to-date protocols to ensure staff and partner safety.

  • Establish and maintain a system for use of shared office space, including conference rooms, for both internal staff, network partners, and external partners. 

  • In partnership with BPL staff, proactively identify mission-aligned partners who may be interested in co-location or collaborative initiatives. 

  • Monitor compliance with local operational requirements, from insurance requirements to HR posters, in collaboration with BPL leadership.

  • Maintain, monitor, and distribute office equipment, including laptops and software.

  • Manage the annual Hub operations budget and support forecasting as needed. 


Program Operations (15%)

  • Support the onboarding and offboarding of interns working in our space.

  • Oversee the development of contract documents, a process for invoicing, and monitoring activities with NYC DOE and other program partners.

  • Support the collection and maintenance of records for interns, partners, and program vendors to ensure timely payment and smooth financial processes.

  • Serve as a liaison between the city’s Youth Employment Program providers and partner schools to support student recruitment and program enrollment.

  • Maintain up-to-date information about partners and contracts in Salesforce across the organization and create requested reports


Events Coordination (15%)

  • Provide logistical, administrative, and general support to organize and manage events held in the office, including internal meetings, meetings hosted, and other external events held off site.

  • Provide technical & administrative support for BPL’s two major annual events, Big Bang & Leadership Conference, and potentially other events that arise.



  • Propose and/or manage innovative mission-aligned projects as they arise, internally or with partners.

  • Ensure the success of complex projects through planning, collaboration, and regular project reporting. 

  • Collaborate with colleagues to address organizational changes needed to support successful implementation of new initiatives, including structures, processes, and systems.

  • Support efforts to advance DEI on a micro (self), meso (organization), and macro (systems-level/external) level.

  • Other responsibilities may be identified based on organizational need and individual’s skills and interests. 




Bachelor’s Degree. However, as research demonstrates that education requirements can be a deterrent for qualified candidates to apply and can perpetuate gender and racial disparities, we encourage all candidates with the professional experiences and leadership qualities outlined in this position specification to apply.


At least 2-3 years’ experience working in Operations, preferably in an education and/or nonprofit context. Such experience may be demonstrated through office manager, operations teams, administrative assistant, program assistant, or similar roles. For this role we are also looking for someone with experience living and/or working in the Bronx, and the ability to coordinate and communicate with partners locally, in English and Spanish. We also seek someone with an appreciation for innovative technology solutions, with an ability to use – or quickly learn – multiple tech platforms (i.e., Google Suite, Salesforce, Asana).

Additionally, strong interpersonal skills, as well as organizational and project management skills will serve individuals well. Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

Bronx, NY. This is an in-person, in-office role. Occasional remote work may be scheduled but the candidate should expect to be in-office Monday-Friday most weeks.

Yearly goals written in July, year-end written review/evaluation completed in June.

Full-time, year-round. Evenings/weekends as needed.
