Haas Media LLC is a multilingual public engagement firm providing its services in a range of disciplines including communications, community outreach, stakeholder facilitation, focus groups, training, interpretation and translation services.

Summary:

The Borough-Based Jail Program (BBJ) is committed to minimizing construction impacts and creating a consistent and robust relationship with the communities surrounding each project site in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.  The Community Construction Liaison (CCL) is assigned to each construction site to provide regular updates about the program and construction process to the community. The CCL work includes close coordination with local community members, the contractors, project managers, and construction managers on site, and relevant City agencies and other stakeholders.

 

Throughout the program’s construction process, the CCL will be responsible for creating and disseminating regular construction updates to specific stakeholders and the general public, responding to calls and emails from community members, attending and presenting at Community Board (CB) meetings, stakeholder meetings, and other public meetings, and managing the day-to-day flow of communication to and from the community.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·       Coordination with stakeholders, constituents, project team, and contractors

·       Coordinate and work closely with Borough-Based Jail Program

·       Be available and highly engaged with the community

·       Endeavor to be the first point of contact for the community handling local concerns, inquiries,

·       and complaints

·       Manage expectations about the construction process by providing regular updates in advance of

·       work operations

·       Bring the community’s concerns to the construction management team for review and

·       resolution

·       Review the plans and specifications for the construction contract(s)

·       Organize and arrange for a walkthrough of the Project if needed

·       Assess the potential negative impact of the Project work activities on the community of

·       the Project and flag for the project team to review prior to starting work

·       The CCL shall develop, maintain, and keep a current calendar of significant community events, including Ethnic/Religious Festivals, Street Fairs, Marathons, Parades, Play Street Closing, and Block Parties/Celebrations

·       Maintain a Community Notification Network, identifying key community institutions and organizations by name, association, and address

·       Preparation of informational materials, including construction notices and electronic communications, “72-hour Advance Notices,” Weekly Look Ahead,” and “Judiciary Advisories” as needed to inform the community of what construction work will likely impact the neighborhood. Additional advisories will be needed to update the community of any modifications that may have been made

·       Keep track and provide photos and videos of milestone events at the construction site and record all community events (if possible) on high-quality cameras.

·       Provide accurate write-ups for inclusion in the newsletters. (Digital images, both photos and videos will help record the events of these milestones.)

·       Keep field office records regarding community interaction, including without limitation, complaints received, and all correspondence, meetings, and task force minutes

·       Regularly update and maintain project-specific pages on the BBJ program website

·       Follow standard Communication Protocols when it receives an inquiry from elected officials,

·       media, Community Board, another City agency, residents, or businesses

 

Working Hours

·       In-Person, Monday – Friday from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

·       CCL schedule varies depending on construction activities and community meeting schedules

·       Position located on White Street in Manhattan

·       The CCL is expected to work 40 hours a week or less

·       Work during the weekends is not frequently expected, and if needed, it will be coordinated in advance

 

Required Skills

·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·       Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and task management capabilities

·       Public-speaking experience

·       Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email management, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat

 

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Prior experience as a Community Construction Liaison
  • Prior experience with NYC-based construction projects

 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years industry working experience in areas of communications, community outreach, project administration, document management.
  • Experience working with NYC Community Boards, elected officials, community organizations, and individuals to communicate and coordinate project information.
  • Ability to work as a team and independently to achieve goals.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to de-escalate tense situations and always communicate clearly and calmly.
